Lake Freshwater
Set in the forested folds of the Siskiyou Mountains, Applegate Reservoir offers a rewarding mix of trout and bass fishing in a peaceful, high-country setting. This 1,000-acre lake is stocked each spring with thousands of rainbow trout, making it a top destination for anglers from April through early summer. Trout are most active near the dam, French Gulch, and Seattle Bar, where bait fishing and trolling both produce solid results.

As the season warms, smallmouth and largemouth bass take the spotlight. Smallmouths thrive along rocky points and deeper ledges, while largemouths favor the weedy shallows and submerged timber of the Carberry Creek Arm. Crappie and bullhead catfish add to the variety, especially in summer when warmwater species are most active.

Access is generally good, with multiple boat ramps and ample shoreline for bank fishing. The French Gulch ramp remains usable even during low water. Anglers should review
