Suttle Lake

Suttle Lake, near Sisters, Oregon, is a deep, clear, and exceptionally beautiful lake in the Deschutes National Forest, celebrated for its excellent coldwater fishery. It boasts a thriving, naturally reproducing kokanee salmon population, making it a premier destination for these landlocked sockeye. Additionally, the lake supports a significant population of brown trout, offering a challenging trophy pursuit, along with rainbow trout and mountain whitefish.

Fishing conditions are consistently excellent for its coldwater species, with early summer water temperatures around 63°F indicating optimal activity. The lake is open year-round for angling. Trolling is a highly effective method for both kokanee and trout, utilizing various lures and dodgers. Still fishing with bait or spin casting with small lures are also productive. Fly anglers can find success with nymphs, streamers, and dry flies during insect activity.

Access to Suttle Lake is excellent, with numerous public access points, campgrounds, and a resort, accommodating both motorized and non-motorized boats. Anglers must strictly adhere to all Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife (ODFW) regulations, including specific bag limits and size restrictions.
