Little Lake in East Hemet, CA, is a publicly accessible, community-centered lake offering year-round shore-based fishing. Managed by the Valley-Wide Recreation and Park District, the lake is stocked seasonally with rainbow trout in cooler months and channel catfish during the warmer season, depending on the California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s regional stocking schedule.
Trout are stocked between November and March and are best targeted early in the day using floating PowerBait, nightcrawlers, or small spinners like Kastmasters. As temperatures rise in the spring and summer, trout give way to channel catfish, which are stocked periodically and respond well to cut baits, chicken liver, and dip baits fished near the lake’s deeper sections.
In addition to stocked fish, the lake supports resident populations of largemouth bass, bluegill, and redear sunfish. These species are most active from spring through fall. Bluegill are readily caught using worms or small jigs, and bass respond to plastics and crankbaits near structure or shaded areas.
Fishing is permitted from shore only. No boats or watercraft are allowed. While the lake has no entrance fee, a valid California fishing license is required for all anglers 16 years and older. With regular stockings, ease of access, and a relaxed atmosphere, Little Lake remains a reliable option for anglers in the Hemet area.
