Santa Fe Lake is a small, 6-acre seasonal fishery located in the heart of Williams, AZ, at 6,800 feet elevation. Managed by the City of Williams and stocked by AZGFD, it offers convenient and consistent trout fishing from late spring through early fall.
The lake is regularly stocked with rainbow trout from May to September. Anglers do well using PowerBait, worms, and salmon eggs, as well as spinners and fly patterns like beadhead nymphs. All fishing is done from shore, with a trail encircling the lake and offering ample casting spots.
Boating is not permitted, but accessibility is excellent, with benches, shade structures, and restrooms available. The lake is particularly popular with families, beginners, and tourists exploring Route 66 or nearby forest attractions. Fishing is best in the morning and evening hours and most productive early in the season before weed growth becomes heavy.
Standard statewide trout regulations apply—six trout per angler daily—and a valid Arizona fishing license is required for those age 10 and older.
Santa Fe Lake is ideal for casual, close-to-town fishing and offers a relaxing outdoor experience with reliable trout action. It’s an excellent option for those looking to fish without venturing deep into the backcountry.
