Jordan River

Utah’s Jordan River provides diverse urban fishing from Utah Lake to the Great Salt Lake. Though not a trophy fishery, it supports channel catfish, carp, white bass, and occasional largemouth bass.

Catfish are the main draw, with anglers using nightcrawlers, chicken liver, or stink baits in deeper pools. Carp provide strong fights and are targeted with dough balls or corn, often on light tackle. Some carp exceed 10 pounds.

White bass and largemouth bass appear near Utah Lake, especially in backwaters with decent structure. Crankbaits and soft plastics work best for these species.

Much of the river is accessible from the Jordan River Parkway Trail, offering walk-in fishing along several miles. While it’s an urban setting, some stretches feel remote and provide a relaxing fishing experience.

Regulations may change in restoration zones, so check updates before fishing. For local anglers, the Jordan River offers surprisingly good variety and accessibility close to Salt Lake Valley neighborhoods.
