Blanding Reservoir

Blanding · Utah

Lake Freshwater
Blanding Reservoir, just north of the town of Blanding, provides dependable fishing for trout, bass, and bluegill. Managed as a community fishery by the Utah DWR, it’s regularly stocked with rainbow trout in the cooler months. Rainbows average 10–14 inches and bite well on PowerBait, worms, and small spinners. Fly anglers do well with midges and buggers in the spring and fall.

As temperatures rise, largemouth bass move into the shallows and hit soft plastics and spinnerbaits around submerged brush. Bluegill also become active and are easy to catch near shore on worms or small jigs—perfect for young anglers.

The reservoir is best fished from shore or small watercraft like float tubes and kayaks, as there’s no developed boat ramp. Though primitive camping is allowed, no facilities exist. Because it's managed under Utah’s Community Fisheries Program, anglers must follow a two-fish daily limit and are encouraged to check the Utah Fishing Guidebook for updated regulations.

Blanding Reservoir’s easy access, peaceful atmosphere, and multi-species options make it a great local fishery for anglers of all experience levels.
