Lake Freshwater
Silver Lake, located along the June Lake Loop at 7,200 feet elevation, is a prime Eastern Sierra trout fishery known for its consistent action, scenic beauty, and accessibility. The 110-acre lake is stocked regularly with rainbow trout and supports a natural population of brown trout. It offers productive fishing from shore, boat, or float tube, with hotspots along the east shoreline and near the inlet and outlet of Rush Creek.

Bait anglers find success using PowerBait, nightcrawlers, and salmon eggs, particularly in the morning and evening. Trolling with spoons such as Needlefish and Thomas Buoyants is effective in summer when fish move to deeper water. Fly anglers enjoy solid results with woolly buggers, midges, and dry fly presentations, especially around creek inflows.

Rush Creek adds additional opportunities for anglers targeting wild trout. Fly fishing and ultralight spinning gear work well in this flowing water.

Silver Lake is open from late April through November, with regulations consistent with the Eastern Sierra district: a five-trout limit and special rules for portions of Rush Creek. Lodging, camping, and tackle rentals are available at Silver Lake Resort, making this an ideal destination for anglers seeking a full-service, high-country trout fishing experience.
