Utah’s Green River below Flaming Gorge Dam is a world-renowned trout fishery. Section A, the most popular stretch, boasts over 10,000 trout per mile—mostly rainbows and browns averaging 15–17 inches. This tailwater’s cold, clear flows create year-round fly fishing opportunity.
Anglers float or hike the canyon targeting trout with dry flies, nymphs, and streamers. Spring brings BWO and midge hatches, while summer features terrestrials and stoneflies. Terrestrial flies and hopper-dropper rigs are deadly in warmer months.
Sections B and C offer larger brown trout with less angling pressure. Spin fishing is permitted and productive with spoons, Rapalas, and jigs.
Section A is artificial-only and catch-and-release. Shore and boat access are available at Dutch John and Little Hole, where restrooms and campsites are maintained.
Whether you're floating a drift boat or hiking the red rock canyon, the Green River delivers premier trout fishing in a breathtaking setting.
