Vernal · Utah

Lake Freshwater
Located just north of Vernal, Steinaker Reservoir offers a diverse fishing experience within the comforts of a full-service state park. Anglers can target rainbow trout, largemouth bass, bluegill, and wipers—making it one of the most well-rounded fisheries in northeastern Utah.

Rainbow trout are regularly stocked and bite readily on bait, lures, and flies, especially during the spring and fall. Bass become active in late spring through summer and can be found near submerged structure using jigs and topwater lures. Bluegill provide consistent action near the shoreline, making them ideal for youth anglers and beginners.

Wipers, a hybrid species known for their strong fight, have added a unique element to Steinaker’s fishery. They are best targeted with swimbaits or crankbaits during low-light periods and provide a welcome challenge to experienced anglers.

Steinaker State Park offers a boat ramp, camping, restrooms, and picnic areas, making it highly accessible. Ice fishing is possible during the winter for trout and panfish. Water levels may vary seasonally, affecting accessibility, so checking conditions in advance is advised.
